“Displacement threads through each frame—a sense of being present but not fully recognized. Figures blur, vanish, or fold into their surroundings. Light is uninviting. Walls press in. Machines glow with quiet authority. Every space feels like it was designed for function, not comfort—structures that isolate, hold, or observe without acknowledging what’s inside them.
The human form is always just out of step—never quite centered, never fully there. Movement feels interrupted. Stillness feels uneasy. Together, these moments form a map of control, vulnerability, and detachment. Not a narrative, but a system—one that keeps things visible without ever letting them fully surface...” - GPT 4o

This project comes from my issue with the lack of community in Santa Cruz. Growing up in big cities, life feels so interconnected, the isolation here feels inhuman. The telephone wires became a symbol of this — mechanistic and cold, but the only physical thing tying the town together. I walked for hours to photograph them, the stories they hold and the conversations they’ve known will forever be embedded in their veins, but we may never know what they have to say.
