sculpture
This project stemmed from thinking about a speculative future, in which rising sea levels force populations upwards, building on the megastructures created over decades of survival.
Inspired by vernacular architecture in the real world, like Kowloon Walled City in Hong Kong and mega cities like New York and Tokyo, this city was created ad hoc, not pre-planned.
Only placing a module where it would increase structural stability, was one of the constraints the artist placed upon themselves to stay true to the “swarm intelligence” of a city. As the structure grew, amazon boxes happened to be the easiest and most abundant material the artist could find. There is a clear divide between the levels, as is true in most vertical structures.
This project imagines a future where mega-corporations like Amazon, continue to profit off of ecological disaster, and will soon become the foundations of our hyper capitalist cities and societies. We cling to the mega-corp buildings because they're the only thing left standing on this desolate flooded planet.
radroach 2138
In a desperate attempt to undo the damage of a ruined Earth, scientists turn to the one creature that never dies: the cockroach. This interactive sculpture envisions a speculative future where humans, fractured by ecological collapse and poisoned cities, begin bioengineering roaches to study and replicate their resistance to radiation, toxicity, and time.
Encased in a pressurized cylinder, the specimen becomes both experiment and prototype. Tubes feed into it, drain from it—unclear if they’re sustaining life or extracting data. The green fluid suggests contamination or mutation, something just on the edge of what we call natural.
